Nina Puch, Women's Golf

May 21, 2013

Nina Puch (Des Plaines, Ill.) finished tied for 62nd at the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships. The freshman had her best round on the third day of competition as she fired an even-par 72, which also tied for the lowest round in the tournament. Puch was one of only two players to record the 72, as tournament champion Laura Lindsey also carded a 72 during each of her first two rounds.

Russell Johnson (Monticello, Wis.) went 4-0 at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles in leading the CUW Men's Tennis team to a Northern Athletics Conference regular season championship. Johnson did not lose a singles match during the NAC regular season schedule, posting a 9-0 mark. He and the Falcons will play in the NAC Tournament this Saturday.

Cara Landherr (Waukesha, Wis.) had a big week at the plate in helping lead the CUW Softball team to a 6-0 record. Landherr drove in 21 runs in 22 at bats while batting .500. The senior infielder had her best game against Alverno College where she went 4-for-4 with three home runs and eight runs driven in. She also had a two home run game against Rockford College. Landherr belted five home runs during the week and currenlty leads the NAC in home runs and RBIs.

Russell Johnson (Monticello, Wis.) went 3-0 in both singles and doubles play as he helped lead the CUW Men's Tennis team to three conference wins. Johnson won all of his matches at No. 1 singles, while also winning one match each at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 doubles. Him and the Falcons improved to 5-0 in the NAC in the process.

Martin Hinze (Bourbonnais, Ill.) set a new school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase this past weekend at the Rex Foster Invitational. Hinze won the event Friday in a time of 9:32.88, a time that also ranks him first in the Northern Athletics Conference senior. The junior also ranks 20th in the nation in the event.

Abbie Goetsch (Grayslake, Ill.) helped lead the Falcons to a 3-1 record last week as they concluded their Florida trip. Two of those three wins came against ranked opponents as CUW topped No. 16 St. Thomas University and No. 20 Carthage College, both by scores of 5-4. Against the Tommies Goetsch, a senior catcher, delivered the game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh, capping off a 3-for-3 day at the plate. She finished the four games with a .545 (6-for-11) batting average, hitting one double, one triple, and driving in three runs.

Greg Sanders (San Antonio, Texas) became the first national champion in CUW Wrestling history as he claimed the 149 lb. title. Sanders defeated defending 141 lb. national champion Kodie Silvestri of Wartburg College, 6-5, in the finals, scoring a two-point reversal late in the match to gain the victory. For his efforts he was named the NWCA Outstanding Wrestler of the national tournament. He finished 2012-13 with a 40-4 record.

March 12, 2013

Christopher Grenz (Centennial, Colo.) helped lead the CUW Men's La Crosse team to a 2-0 record last weekend. Grenz and the defense allowed just 11 goals combined as the Falcons defeated Albion College, 10-9, on Saturday followed by an 8-2 win over Alma College Sunday. Assigned to each opponents top attackman, Grenz shut both players out over the weekend finishing with six ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Sean Ambrocio (San Antonio, Texas) won the 125-pound weight class during the NCAA Division III Midwest Wrestling Regionals in Minneapolis on Saturday. He finished the day 4-0 with a victory by fall and major decision. The exercise physiology major improved his season record to 33-5, which includes 19-consecutive wins.

February 26, 2013

Greg Sanders (San Antonio, Texas) was named Outstanding Wrestler at the Northern Wrestling Association Tournament. Sanders pinned both of his opponents en route to his championship at 149 lbs., including needing just 19 seconds in the title match. The 19 seconds marked the fastest time he has pinned an opponent in his career. Sanders has now won 26 straight matches entering this weekends NCAA Division III West Regional.

Brian Jackson (Carol Stream, Ill.) scored 10 and 18 points, respectively, as the Falcons played in the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament. He also grabbed 15 rebounds, blocked three shots, assisted on three field goals and stole two passes in both games. The Secondary Education major concluded his career with 524 points.

Chris Hughes (Dundee, Mich.) scored a pair of goals and added an assist in the Falcons series against nationally-ranked Adrian College on Friday and Saturday. He was also named Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association Freshman of the Week for his efforts.

Emily Mauermann broke the CUW school record in the 200-meters (27.17) at the UW-Parkside Classic Open on Saturday. She also placed in the high jump with a leap of 1.5 meters.

Brian Jackson was named MVP at the 2013 CIT after leading CUW to the tournament title.

Tiffany Hendrickson became the 14th player in CUW history to break the 1,000 point mark for the women's basketball program with a 12 point performance against Dominican University.

Sean Pawlak finished second in the 400-meter dash (51.60) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (23.24) at the Wisconsin Private College Invitational.

Katie Luethe grabbed 11 rebounds, dished out five assists, scored eight points, had a pair of steals, and added a blocked shot in the Falcon win over Benedictine.

Steve Zielinski led CUW in both weekend tournament games against State schools, scoring 23 points, pulling down nine rebounds and adding a trio of blocks for the Falcons.

Sean Ambrocio edged out No. 8-ranked Jake Scholten (Augustana) by a 6-5 decision to win the North Central Invitational 125-pound weight class. He was named Outstanding Wrestler for his efforts and it was his second title of the season.

Greg Sanders defeated his first opponent by fall in 4:29 before winning three-straight bouts by decision to capture the MSOE Championship. Sanders defeated his opponents 10-4, 10-5 and 6-3 en route to the medal.

Wrestling at 133 pounds, Lubner finished second at the Luther Open. He won three boutsincluding an 8-6 decision win over the nation's ninth-ranked wrestler before losing to a Division II wrestler in the finals.

Damaschke threw five TD passes and ran for a sixth as CUW improved to 5-1 in conference play with a 45-31 win over Aurora.

Eric Hertel never missed a meet in four seasons of participation on the CUW men's golf team.  This season he improved his score by six strokes per round.

Carley Valentine led CUW to a pair of weekend wins.  She totalled 13 kills, 19 digs, and 30 assists as the Falcons defeated CU-Chicago and Aurora.

Austin Damaschke threw for a game-high 307 yards on 20-of-37 and tossed four touchdowns as the football team fell in thrilling fashion, 47-44, in overtime to Concordia University Chicago. The sophomore gunsliger also ran for 70 yards on 17 carries (4.1 average) and touchdown.

Kyle Sytsma scored both goals in a 2-0 win over Benedictine and added his third score of the week in a 3-1 victory over Lakeland.  The Falcons improved to 5-1-0 in the NAC with those wins.

John Palese was credited with 10 tackles, broke up a pass attempt, recovered a fumble, and shadowed BenU All American John Borsellino all afternoon in a 6-0 CUW win.

Emily Ciesielczyk tallied four assists during the week, raising her league-leading total to 14 as CUW improved to 6-0-0 in NAC play.

Nina Puch was the overall Individual Medalist at the Benedictine Invitational over the weekend. Her 18 hole scores of 75 and 80 were three strokes better than any other competitor.

Lauren Straehler scored the game-winning goal at North Central College during the Falcons, 3-2, double-overtime victory. The senior also scored a pair of goals against Rockford College and one at Lake Forest College.

Alex Pawlak (Men's Track & Field)

Pawlak advanced to the NCAA Tournament in the 110- and 400-meter hurdles, where he finished 15th and 18th, respectively. The senior finished his career with five school records and three Northern Athletics Conference records.

May 14

Brian Tresedder (Men's Tennis)

Tresedder was named Northern Athletics Conference Player of the Year for the second-consecutive year. The senior No. 1 singles and doubles player helped the Falcons advance to their third NCAA Tournament appearance in four years.

May 7

Alex Pawlak (Men's Track & Field)

Pawlak won three separate medals in leading the Falcons to first place at the NAC Track & Field Championships.

 (Softball)

Schroeder was 8-for-13 (.615) during the week as CUW went 4-2. She also walked twice and drove in eight runs for the Falcons who finished 19-5 in conference play.

Mariah Giesseman (Softball)

Playing at No. 2 singles against Aurora University and No. 1 against Rockford College, Turner finished the week 4-0, including two doubles wins, as the Falcons improved to 6-0 in Northern Athletics Conference action.

Gieseeman was 9-for-14 at the plate during the week as CUW went 4-0. She scored five runs and drove in six, compiling a .667 on-base percentage.

Baglow won a pair of games for the Falcons, posting a 0.59 ERA in wins over MSOE and Lakeland.

Reiter just keeps setting new standards. Saturday she scored a school-record seven goals in a loss to Pacific.

Burke went 3-0 during the week with 19 Ks and a 0.41 ERA for CUW.

Freshman Ambrocio won three matches at the NCAA Division III National Championships in La Crosse on Friday, and was one win away from being crowned All-American at 125 lbs.

Burrell scored twice and added an assist during the Falcon's 11-6 home loss to Wittenberg.

Justin Rogers               Men's Indoor Track and Field

Rogers took first in the Triple Jump, 55m Dash, and 200m Dash; along with being a part of the first place 4x400m Relay at the NAC Indoor Championships.

February 20

Alex Pawlak              Men's Indoor Track and Field

Pawlak placed first in the prelims and third in the finals of the 60m Hurdles at the talent-laden Eastbay Pointer Invitational in Stevens Point over the weekend. Pawlak posted a time of 8.35 in prelims, setting a new school record.

Hot-shooting Mitchell Schneider had games of 25 and 15 points as the Falcons preserved their one game lead in the NAC title chase.

Rebecca Gifford     Womens Indoor Track and Field

Versatile Gifford took third place in the shot put. She also finished third in the triple jump and earned a fifth place finish in the 55m hurdles at the UW-Parkside Invitational.

Brian Jackson       Men's Basketball

Brian averaged 15 points and six rebounds per game in the three CUW contests this past week.  He hit the winning 3-pointer with two seconds left to beat Concordia Chicago on Friday night.

Sean Ambrocio    Wrestling

Ambrocio won all three of his bouts in a triple dual Saturday, accumulating 36 points, while giving up just eight. Ambrocio’s technical fall victory came by a score of 17-1 and his major decision win was 14-4.

Luke Doedens    Men's Basketball

Luke hit eight of 11 shots including five of seven from beyond the arc against MSOE. He added 5 rebounds, 5 steals, and 3 assists in the battle of league leaders.

Greg (24-2) was voted "Outstanding Wrestler of the Meet" as he took first place at 141 in a exceptionally strong weight class at the Elmhurst Invitational.

Brittany Zietlow   Women's Basketball

"Z" scored a career-high 18 points, while adding 4 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal and a blocked shot to lead CUW to a win over Dominican.

Erik Condia        Men's Basketball

Erik hit 4 of 6 shots, grabbed 9 rebounds, and added a pair of blocked shots as CUW defeated UW- Oshkosh 76-72 to improve to 8-3.

Jesse Huggins   Wrestling

Freshman Jesse Huggins went 3-0 at the Florida Gulf Coast Duals to improve his record to 14-4 on the season.

Mitchell Schneider Men's Basketball

Mitchell Schneider became the 13th player in Concordia University Wisconsin men's basketball history to surpass the 1,000 point mark for his career. Schneider reached the total nine games into his senior season.

Marcus Lubner Wrestling

Wrestling at 131, Lubner took second place at the 13 team MSOE Invitational over the weekend.

Hendrickson averaged 13.0 points and hit all 4 of her long range attempts as the Falcons split a pair of thrillers, losing to UW-River Falls by 1 before defeating NAC rival Edgewood.

Doedens averaged 18.3 points per game while shooting 63% from the floor as the Falcons opened their season with three games against WIAC schools on the road; going 2-1.

Greg Sanders Wrestling

Wrestling at 141, freshman Greg Sanders finished with a 3-0 record against top-notch competition at the Falcon's season-opening triple dual.

Josh Lehr Men's Hockey

Lehr, CUW's freshman goalie, made an amazing 57 saves as the Falcons tied Lawrence 2-2 in league hockey action to earn their first points of the season.

Russ DeLap's racers won both the men's and women's NAC Championships with an amazing display of team depth.

Brittany Deinlein Volleyball

Deinlein led CUW with 28 kills and 26 digs as the Falcons defeated Concordia-Chicago and Aurora in conference play.

Zach Lemler Men's Soccer

Lemler scored both goals as the Falcons overcame a stiff challenge from WLC to record a 2-0 win and stay undefeated in the NAC.

Joseph Paul Football

Paul broke into Concordia's Top 10 All Time single game rushing yardage list with a 225 yard performance on just 17 carries in a 59-7 win over Maranatha.

Austin Damaschke Football

In his first career start, Damaschke completed 16 of 24 passes for 228 yards and scrambled for 47 more as the Falcons (1-0 in the NAC) defeated Rockford 46-14.

Kyle Sytsma Men's Soccer

Sytsma scored both goals in a 2-1 win non-conference over North Central (6-2-0) on Saturday. The junior midfielder also had two assists against Rockford earlier in the week.

Lauren Straehler Women's Soccer

A returning first team all conference performer, Lauren scored three goals against CU-Chicago in a 5-0 win on Saturday and assisted on two others. She leads the Falcons with 7 goals and 2 assists to date.

Muriel McIntyre Women's Golf

Three-time Player of the Year, Muriel fired a season's best 79 as the Falcons defeated Lakeland in a NAC dual.

Harrington was 2-0 in singles play at #1 and also 2-0 in doubles action as the Falcons defeated CU-Chicago and Dominican in NAC-opening play
